Traxxas E Revo 2.0 ESC Problems [Reasons & Solutions]

Facing problems with Traxxas E Revo 2.0? Well, it’s pretty common to bump into such a situation. But no worries! We’ll help you pinpoint the problem you’re having with the ESC. We’ll also help you find the best solutions for the problems.

So, what’s the reason behind Traxxas E Revo 2.0 ESC Problems?

To summarize, the E Revo ESC could show problems for various reasons. For instance overheating, wiring problems, high voltage, etc. The major issues caused because of ESC malfunction are engine failure, slower acceleration, unresponsive controls, etc.

In this article, we’ve covered these issues in detail. Stick with us till the end to find what you’re looking for.

So without any more delay, let’s begin.

Things to Consider

The ESC could malfunction because of different reasons. For example, overheating, wiring, battery problems, etc.

Let’s take a dive into the quick fixes.

Check the Temperature

Higher temperatures could cause the ESC to malfunction. The higher temperatures could lead to ESC failure. As a result, the RC will stop working.

To avoid overheating you should always check the temperature of the RC. You should also install cooling fans to keep the ESC safe.

Check the Wiring

If the motor is not powering up then there could be an issue with the wiring.

Make sure you insert the right wires in the right output. The RC will not work if you insert the wrong wires in the wrong slot. Wrong wiring could also be hazardous to the RC.

You should also keep in mind the 5 and 3 wire servo connections. You cannot use a 5 wire servo in the sloth of a 3 wire servo. You need to convert the 5 wire servo to 3 wire servo in order to do that.

Check the Battery

Your ESC might not respond because of damped-out batteries. Damped batteries reduce the power supply to the ESC. Which results in slower acceleration, engine failure, and no response to the controls.

So you should always check the battery’s health. And replace them when they need to be replaced.

Use Compatible ESC

Different RC models use different ESCs. In order to run the motor, you need to be sure of the compatibility of the ESC.

Hence you should install a compatible ESC.

These are a few quick fixes you could try.

3 Problems and Its Solutions

Are the quick fixes not working? Then you should try these solutions instead. These solutions just might help.

Problem 1: ESC Overheating

Your RC ESC could start malfunctioning because of overheating. You can face engine failure causing the RC to stop working.

Now overheating can happen as a result of the temperature of the environment. Besides, shifting to higher gears for a long time could also cause overheating.

Solution

To avoid overheating you should always check the temperature of your RC. Especially when you take it off the track. You should avoid the RC getting too hot.

Always use a temperature gun to check the temperature. Here are some of our suggestions for temp guns. Here give it a check.

Another way to prevent overheating is by using external cooling fans. There are different types of external fans you can find. These fans can be mounted beside the ESC. These fans help to keep the temperature in check.

Our recommendations for external fans are:

Problem 2: Dead Battery

Over time your battery could reduce supplying the power efficiently. This hampers the functionality of the ESC.

The ESC is powered by 2 batteries. Mixing different kinds of batteries is highly discouraged.  Both the batteries should have the same power, polarity, and charging capacity. And it’s also necessary to ensure that the battery is compatible with the device.

Similarly, you should also avoid overcharging your batteries. This could cause battery failures.

In any case, if you do face battery problems, it is recommended to replace the battery.

Here is a step-by-step method on how to replace batteries on Traxxas E Revo 2.0:

Step 1: Switch Off and Keep the RC Stationary

First, you need to make sure that the E Revo is switched off. Then you must keep it in a stationary position. A flat surface is preferable.

Step 2: Remove the Old Batteries

There are two 3s packs of Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries used in the Revo 2.0. Or a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery is used. The batteries are rechargeable.

You’ll find the batteries on either side of the body of the Revo. The batteries are connected to the ESC with wire connections.

To disconnect the batteries you need to disconnect the wires. Then take out the batteries from the battery case.

Step 3: Insert New Batteries

After you’ve taken out the old ones you need to insert new batteries. Traxxas E Revo is compatible with Traxxas batteries. Hence it is recommended to use Traxxas batteries.

Here are some options for Traxxas E Revo battery replacements:

The new batteries should be connected to the wire of the ESC. And then the Revo 2.0 is ready to go.

Problem 3: ESC Flashing Green and Red Lights

Low-Voltage Detector is enabled by default with Lithium batteries. The condition of the LED on the speed control will turn green when you power it.

But whenever you’re using a NiMH battery you should keep the Low-Voltage detector ‘off’. If you keep it on the ESC will show an alarm for high voltage. The E-Revo is blinking red and green lights.

To solve this problem you should do the following:

Step 1: Insert the Battery

First, you need to turn on the transmitter. and then you need to insert a charged Nimh battery.

Step 2: Start the ESC

On the ESC, press and hold the blue EZ-Set switch. The ESC light will flash green before becoming red. Once the light turns red, let the switch go quickly.

The ESC’s light will blink red once then you can turn off. Hold the transmitter trigger to full speed at this moment. Then when the light blinks red twice you need to hold the transmission to full reverse.

The light on the ESC should start blinking red after that.

Step 3: Release the EZ Button

The ESC lights will go out for five to ten seconds. Then the ESC displays a steady red light. Which means the process was successful.

Now that you’re done fixing the traxxas e revo esc problems, take your RC for a spin!

FAQ

How long do LiPo batteries last?

Lithium-polymer battery packs have a longevity range of two to three years or a 300 to 800 limit. A LiPo battery, however, may last anywhere from 25 minutes to several days on a full charge. Battery packs are now one of the most widely used sources of power for electronic devices.

How fast does a Traxxas E-Revo go?

Traxxas E-Revo can hit the top speed of seventy-five miles per hour. Sometimes, the E-Revo can go even faster. With the NiMH batteries, the E-Revo 2.0 can travel at around thirty miles per hour. It’s almost twice as fast as any other model available. This makes Revo one of the fastest.
